In traditional sewing, laying out a pattern on fabric is a hands-on and time-consuming process. It requires careful planning, a steady hand, and a sharp eye for alignment. Each pattern piece must be positioned thoughtfully on the material to make the best use of fabric, avoid distortion, and ensure the grain lines are correct. Once the layout is set, the pattern is traced or chalked by hand before cutting — a process that demands patience and precision. In this workshop, we replace that manual step with technology. Using nesting software and a CO₂ laser cutter, the fabric layout and cutting process are automated. The software efficiently arranges pattern pieces to minimize waste, and the laser delivers clean, accurate cuts in a fraction of the time. This allows students to focus more on the art of sewing itself, rather than the tedious preparation stage. This is not a beginner sewing class — it is designed for those who already know how to sew and want to expand their skill set with digital fabrication techniques. Students must bring their own sewing machines. Made In Workshop will provide all materials and consumables needed for the cutting process.
*Please note that this class is not a tradesman qualification.
